回复 :高中少女桂木万里（原田知世 饰）5岁时，父亲（高桥幸宏 饰）曾向她描述一个美丽南太平洋小岛新喀里多尼亚，那是一个离天国最近的地方，当地的人民安居乐业，无忧无虑，宛如生活在仙境一般。父亲去世后，万里念念不忘与父亲共赴新喀里多尼亚的约定。她向母亲（松尾嘉代 饰）告别，独自踏上前往澳洲的旅程。几天的行程下来，万里发现新喀里多尼亚并非心中的那个小岛。之后他随假导游深谷有一（峰岸徹 饰）游历了伊尔德班；随第三代日本青年渡边太郎（高柳良一 饰）探访了乌维亚岛，但似乎都与父亲口中“离天国最近的小岛”相差甚远。万里留在这里的时间也越来越短……本片根据森村桂同名小说改编。
