父亲教授中国传统的书画艺术，中文字幕他希望这门艺术能在儿子这一辈得到传承，中文字幕可儿子选择了化妆师职业，由于观念上的分歧，父子二人常年存在隔阂。退休后的父亲本想陪着老伴平静地度过晚年，但是老伴突发的疾病让老两口措手不及，老两口在是否让儿子放弃梦想回来照顾自己的问题上产生了分歧，病情的加重使老两口日渐艰难，经济上的拮据让他们雪上加霜、被逼入绝境。得知母亲重病，儿子回到家中照顾母亲。过程中父子二人关系稍有缓和，但由于家里负担不起救治费用，加上病情太重，母亲还是离开了。母亲去世后，父亲终于理解了儿子，儿子也明白了珍惜眼前的亲情。但最终，儿子却在一场车祸中丧生。整个故事是一个悲剧，但悲剧之中有温情、有陪伴，当然也有遗憾。父亲和儿子隔阂多年后重拾亲情，但母亲也离开了人世。我们常说，永远不会知道明天和意外哪个先来，珍惜眼前人，陪伴彼此认真活好每一天，或许才是我们最应该做的。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
