李小龙未满周岁便亮相银幕的《金门女》，魅魅导演伍锦霞是 三藩市华侨，魅魅三、四十年代在香港和美国执导过九部粤 语片，不乏民族意识及女权色彩。既是第一位执导港片 的海外华人女导演，更是独立特行、超越时代的奇女子， 毕生短髮男装打扮，人皆以「霞哥」相称，于纽约经营 的中餐馆更成了传奇地标。影片在资料蒐集与追访亲友 之馀，不忘拿同样大志未竟的两位同期的影坛先锋作映 照，华裔荷裡活女星黄柳霜及当时唯一的荷裡活女导演 Dorothy Arzner，皆被时代遗忘多时，今日重获肯定。

A decade later, they had become the biggest distributors of gay porn in the US.The film focuses on the double life they led, trying to maintain the balance of being parents at a time when LGBT culture was not yet accepted. Their many challenges included facing jail time for a federal obscenity prosecution and enabling their store to be a place of refuge at the height of the AIDS crisis.Circus of Books offers a rare glimpse into an untold chapter of queer history, and it is told through the lense of the owners' own daughter, Rachel Mason, an artist, filmmaker and musician.
