国精Herzog takes a film crew to the island of Guadeloupe when he hears that the volcano on the island is going to erupt. Everyone has left, except for one old man who refuses to leave. Herzog catches the eeriness of an abandoned city, with stop lights cycling over an empty intersection.

When it's discovered that the medicine belonged to another guest and the revealing photograph the Major was carrying is missing, Miss Marple realizes that the serial killer has struck again and more murders will follow.

回复 :室生犀星の小説を翻案した成瀬巳喜男監督の名作。高名な作家の娘が文学青年と結婚するが、夫が自分の才能を信じて売れない小説を書き続けるため生活が困窮し、夫婦仲も冷めていくという物語を成瀬独特の淡々とした作風で描いている。暗く起伏に乏しい内容でありながら、その映画的展開は圧倒的に素晴らしい。名声は天地の開きがありながら、同じ志を抱く作家としてのライバル意識を燃やす杏子の父と夫が、庭に隔てた障子越しに執筆中の互いの姿を気にし合うシーンなど、さりげないドラマの肌合いを捉える成瀬演出の白眉である。物語とは直接関係のない細部の卓抜な描写も印象的。
