70年代初，经典随着越战升级以及国内抗议声音日隆，经典尼克松总统启动了50年代制定的麦克伦国内安全法（McCarran Act）以应对国内的紧急事故，并建立秘密的隔离营，它可以不经国会的批准甚至不经任何审判也不需要任何证据就可以直接将那些反战分子、激进分子甚至和平主义者投进监狱。在加州西南方的广袤的沙漠中，就有这样的隔离营，在隔离营里的犯人必须穿越沙漠，到达大熊山国家公园附近的基地“惩戒公园”，如在限定时间内不能到达，面临的是钳闭关禁和惩罚……

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
