董建华（黄子华 饰）和丽莎（袁咏仪 饰）结婚多年，国产彼此之间感情十分要好，国产已经养育了一儿一女的丽莎如今腹中又怀上了一个新的生命，为她幸福的婚姻生活锦上添花。丽莎的母亲素宝（叶德娴 饰）从旅途中归来，暂住在女儿家，哪知道个性强硬的素宝和董建华之间发生了诸多的矛盾。在一次激烈的争吵之后，素宝负气离家，却遇上了车祸，她的魂魄来到阴间，竟然见到了去世多年的丈夫埃文斯（秦沛 饰），丈夫告诉素宝，有一冤魂缠上了丽莎腹中的胎儿，在丈夫的帮助下，素宝返回阳界，拥有了通灵能力的她果然在丽莎的身后看到了名为阿萍（甄楚倩 饰）的女鬼，然而，素宝却不知道该拿这个女鬼怎么办。

Though he got to power following quite typical ways, his uncommon character puts him out of the ordinary, and in the author’s opinion it may be determined by his uncommon human nature. Our hero exists within the tragic pattern of the soviet socialist life. He is a character of a drama, of which he is one of the authors. “The Soviet Elegy” can hardly be called a documentary film in the proper sense. Of course, the author guarantees the accuracy of chronology, but he insists on an artistic mode of thinking, not on a political or historical investigation.”
