《怪医黑杰克》最初在1973年11月19日发表于秋田书店的《周刊少年Champion》，春水连载到1978年9月为止。（1979年之后改为不定期单篇刊载）此漫画于1975年获得第四届日本漫画家协会奖，春水1977年获得讲谈社漫画奖。中国大陆于2006年，由花山文艺出版社引进中文简体图书版权，并出版发行。简体版图书全套共30册。此作品于1992年首次改编为OVA，1996年发行剧场版，2004年起改编为电视动画。也多次拍成电视剧。黑杰克，本名间黑男。从小父母离异，留下母亲独自照顾他。某日与母出游，因为工程商的人为疏失，导致母子误踩未爆弹引起爆炸。母亲送医后不治，他也受重伤濒临死亡。幸亏本间丈太郎医师的高明医术救活了他。当下，他立下了两个志愿：成为像本间医师一样的一流外科医师与报复杀死母亲的工程商……
